MPA January Training Evolution

Date: 19 Jan 08

Weather: 16 degrees Farenheit; Wind: NW @ 15; gusts to 25 mph

Counties Represented: Oakland, Macomb, Genesee, Bay & Calhoun

Purpose: Prepare for Winter PAS Evaluation – Feb 08

Highlights:

      1. AQT – We saw a marked increase in qualification scores moving up
from near minimums of 120 into the Sharp Shooter (160 & above)
area. We also found that shooting prone on ice & snow covered
ground plays hell with the NPOA!

      2. Winter PAS – Good fun had in fire starting, snow shoe familiarization,
          and winter camouflage comparison.

      3. Edged Weapons – Hard to move in the cold, but well worth it to start
          using hawks again!

Photo Ops:

MPA takes to the field in '08!

A good fire - dry tinder - lots of air - and no smoke!

Another good fire!

The end result! Sustainable warmth!

Various snow shoes - Practice is easier with only a little snow!

Another reason to carry copious amounts of 550 cord! Make your own snowshoes!

Practice movement without guidepoles.

Small footprint - Superb displacement in heavy woods.
